It wasn't a good game by anyone's standards but the mark of a championship team is when they can pull three points out of the bag when the football probably didn't deserve it.

I say the football didn't deserve it because this game wasn't poor just because of Carlisle's play. Indeed, if it hadn't been for Carlisle's tenacity, the game could well have gone down in memory along with every sunset on an overcast day.

Notts County came with 5 at the back and played with 10 behind the ball for most of the game but Carlisle added to this by failing to string more than 2 passes together on a difficult surface.

County took the lead with a good 1-2 (and a suspect offside) and finished the move off by lobbing Westward. The Blues could have no real complaints.

The goal woke the Cumbrians up but the performance was still well below par until Michael Bridges struck a wonder-goal from the edge of the area to equalise on the stroke of halftime.

The second half was a lot better but still very frustrating for the fans as County doggedly defended for a point and worked hard to ruin Carlisle's day. As the game ran down, the Cumbrian's upped the pressure on the Warwick Road end and got their reward a minute before time.
